Check list for moving

There are few life events that are more stressful than moving, but relocation is a fact of life that is unavoidable for every American at one time or another. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the average American will relocate between 11 and 12 times during his or her lifetime. Regardless how many times an individual moves, it never seems to get easier or any less stressful. But how many people have ever considered using a checklist for moving?

Although every home relocation is bound to be stressful and inconvenient, the better organized each move is, the less stressful and inconvenient it will be. At first, the idea of a moving list might seem too simple to really be much help. After all, moving is merely a matter of moving all your stuff from point A to point B, right?

In theory that might be the case, but in reality, the physical part of moving is only half of it. From start to finish, there are several other steps to moving that occur both before and after relocation. For this reason, a basic moving checklist template will help movers organize everything from researching homes to choosing new schools for their children to unloading the last item from the moving truck.

Sure, many of the things that occur before, during, and after a move are common sense. Obviously, one needs to find a place to live, make sure all of their belongings are accounted for, and make sure everyone has a job or school to go to on Monday morning. But what about the “little things” like bank accounts, safety deposit boxes, switching medical and dental records, turning off utilities, turning on utilities, providing a forwarding mail address, or tuning up the car?

On their own, each of the above items is not such a big deal; but when people have to remember all those things in the midst of everything else that’s going on during a move, a home moving list is a great idea. After all, even the most trivial matters can cause considerable inconvenience when overlooked.

No matter what steps people take moving will always be a process that nobody will be eager to repeat in the near future. But home moving lists can help to make any move more organized efficient, and a least a bit more endurable.
